I haven't trimmed my beard since October and its starting to get some length now, its awesome. I decided that I would not cut it for a whole year. I told my Sensei I'd cut it when he "ties a black belt around my waist." I'm scheduled for December '09.
I get lots of comments, good and bad about the beard, its all fun, and any attention is appreciated. Mostly the comments are good and sometimes women want to touch it. I get a lot of "My beard won't fill in like that," or "mine grows so slow," or my "wife would never let me." My wife hates my beard. 20 years ago she was asking me to grow a beard, I had shaved my beard off for a job just before I met her. No longer at that job I grew my beard back. She always liked it short and in a goatee. I like those styles too but always loved having a full beard and always wanted it long. I think I'm headed for divorce. Its OK I think I was headed there anyway, she's crazy.
Anyway, i'm keeping the beard. Cheers

New Year's Resolutions
Well, its that time of year again. Time to make my New Years resolutions. Actually, I haven't made a resolution in many years but I do make a list of things I want to do. It seems sometimes like a list of resolutions but its not just resolving to lose weight or work out. Its a list of attainable goals that I want to accomplish in the coming year. I don't hold myself to it because the list can get long and I allow myself to change it as I go along and often review the list and check off the things I accomplished. Looking back at this at the end of the year gives me a feeling of accomplishment to know I completed at least some of my list.
For 2008 I remodeled my daughters bedroom, got a tattoo, did 40 push ups (my goal was 50 but a shoulder injury set me back), 35 sit ups, started drawing more, got my brown belt in karate, and generally had fun and enjoyed life. Yes there are things i didn't complete, I did lose weight but I gained it back, I didn't pursue my photography projects like I wanted to and I didn't go to the gym.
For 2009 my list includes getting my black belt, remodeling my bedroom, losing some weight and eating healthier and going to the gym. I know I'll complete some of my list so at the end of the year I'll feel good about it. I'll have a lot of little victories.
I hope everyone can look back on their year and celebrate their little victories and not dwell on the resolutions they didn't follow through on.
Happy New Year.
